Day 1: Uganda Chimpanzee Sanctuary Ngamba Island
Upon arrival, meet and greet with the guide and transfer by boat to Ngamba Island for chimp viewing. On arrival at the sanctuary, you will be briefed about the project at the visitor’s center. You will receive an educational orientation by a chimpanzee care-giver and view a feeding of the chimpanzees.
Day 2: Interactive Experiences with Chimpanzees
After an early breakfast, you will able to accompany the
newest arrivals in the outside enclosure and/or on a walk in the forest. By being part of the team going into the enclosure with the infants, you will be able to give them support by holding them when needed as they are introduced to the older individuals. By walking with them in the forest, you will offer these orphaned chimps assurance as they are introduced to different parts of the forest where they learn that it is a safe and better place for them to be. Together with a senior care-giver, you will be in the company of several chimpanzees, all ranging in age from 5 years to 9 years of age, and will have direct contact with them as we orient them to life in the forest, possibly leading to a future release program back to the wild. During the process some Chimps will merely walk along holding your hand while others will climb on you, grab your glasses, and/or pull your hair.
Day 3: Departure
Enjoy your breakfast and relax at the Island before transferring to the main Land in Entebbe. You may visit Uganda Wildlife Education Center depending on your flight. Later be transferred to Entebbe International Airport.
